Trezor.io/Start | Official Start Page — Initialize Your Device™

Secure hardware wallet setup — step-by-step initialization and best practices for protecting your crypto seed.

Quick start: initialize your Trezor safely

This page guides you through initializing your Trezor hardware wallet with clear, privacy-first steps. Initialization sets up your device firmware, creates a secure recovery seed, and configures a PIN. Follow the steps below carefully, keep your recovery words offline and stored in a secure place, and never share them with anyone. These instructions are designed for clarity: they assume no prior experience and highlight the actions that protect your funds.

1
Unbox & check serial
Verify packaging and serial sticker. Only use the device that was sealed and untampered.
2
Connect & update firmware
Connect your Trezor to a secure computer and install official firmware. Always update when prompted.
3
Create wallet & recovery seed
Generate a new recovery (12/24 words). Write them on paper—do not store them digitally.
4
Set a PIN
Choose a strong PIN. It protects the device from local access attempts.
5
Confirm & test
Confirm seed backup, test small transaction, and store recovery securely offline.

Tip: Keep a small notebook or certified steel backup for long-term storage. Avoid cloud backups, screenshots, or text files.
